Cell Membrane is a thin layer of mostly lipids and proteins that surrounds plant and animal cells. The cell membrane on a plant cell is enclosed by the cell wall. This membrane is semipermeable, allowing some substances pass through into the cell and denying other substances.

Cytoplasm, a thick gel-like substance, is in the cytoplasmic membrane and enclosed by the plasma membrane. It is what fills the plant and animal cells. Cytoplasm has the responsibility to hold many of the cells organelles. Inside the cytoplasm is where most of the functions for the cell growth, metabolism, and replication are carried out.
